Dr. Michael L. Dockery is a Founding Trustee of the McKnight Brain Research Foundation and has served as Chair since 2019. Dr. Dockery is an orthopedic surgeon and partner with OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, North Carolina. He currently serves as Chief of Orthopedics at University Hospital, team physician for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s sports teams, and has a clinical faculty appointment with Atrium Health.

Dr. Dockery is a member of several medical associations, including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Medical Association. He has consistently been  named to North Carolina’s Top Doctors from 2020-2025.

Dr. Dockery received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his medical degree with honors from the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he also completed residency training. Following residency training, Dr. Dockery completed a year of fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Dockery has been practicing for more than 30 years and specializes in Sports Medicine, including knee, shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, as well as knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery.
