What Is Cognition? A Guide to How the Mind Works

Lindsay BorthwickJune 10, 2026Brainworks, Cognitive Aging, Expert Interviews, News, Research

We rely on the mind constantly, but rarely stop to consider how it works. As its demands change, understanding cognition is becoming increasingly important.

Founded in 1999, the McKnight Brain Research Foundation is the nation’s only private foundation dedicated exclusively to discovering the mysteries of the aging brain. By supporting research and investigation, we’re working to better understand and alleviate the effects of age-related cognitive decline and memory loss.
